International economic climates are the main contributor towards a rising bad debt economy where consumers constantly start defaulting on loans, bonds, credit agreements, etc. This subsequently leads to a larger number of consumers being reported to credit bureaus for bad debts. In turn, this leads to consumers willing to take drastic measures in clearing their bad credit histories with the various credit bureaus they are listed at.

With hundreds of millions of consumers worldwide listed on credit bureaus for bad debts or slow debt repayment, fraudsters once again identified a ripe breeding ground for performing their unscrupulous business activities and defrauding desperate consumers already in financial difficulties.

How these scams work

Ever seen any of the following advertisements in newspapers, pamphlets being distributed, on lamp poles and elsewhere:

“Blacklisted? We can clear your name”

“We guarantee a clean credit record…”

Are these ads familiar to you? Then you have witnessed what could be a credit repair scam.

Fraudsters in these types of scams simply invest in an advertising campaign promising and guaranteeing the clearing of a bad credit record at credit bureaus, and wait for the telephone calls from desperate, yet unsuspecting consumers.

The victim will be informed that, at a fixed fee, that his bad credit record can be removed with the assistance of individuals involved with the credit bureau. The victim will be persuaded to believe that the fraudsters have the abilities to clear a bad credit record.

Upon paying the fees the bad credit record is never cleared and the fraudsters would often advise the client to repay all the debt before they can request the clearance of the bad credit record. In certain instances the offenders would simply disappear upon receiving payment.

In certain instances organized crime syndicates may indeed have access to staff employed by credit bureaus. These staff members may be in a position to manipulate the systems in clearing negative entries, but these types of manipulation are short-lived. When an organization or person who requested the listing realise that the credit record was manipulated they will report it to the credit bureau and an investigation will follow, followed by the correction of the listing.

Protecting yourself against these scams

Please remember the golden rule about a negative credit history – No person or company can simply erase a negative or bad credit history.

A bad credit history can only be corrected by paying the outstanding debt in full. The relevant notifications on the credit bureaus’ systems will be made, and the entry cleared after a period of time. Only after this process can a consumer again work on building a positive credit profile.

Do not believe any promises or guarantees from any person or organization in simply clearing bad credit histories at a small or substantial fee. Unless the company offers assistance and guidance in allowing you to clear your debts and start the processes of building a positive credit record, this is a scam.

I was reading an article on the CNN website about April’s Fools and a new virus called Conficker.c will erupt.

What is it?

If you watch 60 minutes, you’re set. So there’s a sleeper virus that has attacked since September, and a few million computers has been infiltrated. It hasn’t done much, it has taken a few bank accounts but otherwise no. It’s been confusing so many experts, but they looked at the coding and the virus is supposed to receive an update tomorrow. So many people are worried that something huge and noticeable will happen. However, it’s just supposed to be updated tomorrow (according to experts), which would make it so people can longer update their firewalls or scan for viruses. But the people who made it don’t seem to be terrorists bent on destroying people but are generally part of Russian gangs who just want money, so wiping your hard drive really doesn’t help them.

To be safe, back up your stuff and don’t do your banking online. The experts could be wrong and the apocalypse could be tomorrow though. But there’s nothing I can do about it so whatever.

Analysts report that it will take over many many computers.  All I can say is that it may be another one of those April Fools’ jokes.  Anyway, I wish you guys the best of luck.  Download some free anti-virus software like AVG and stay safe!

For more information about virus protection, I would suggest researching and downloading virus prevention programs like AVG or paid anti-virus applications alike.

Ever thought about making money selling tickets for popular shows?  Well craigslist is the place.  For those of you who don’t know what craigslist can do for you, it is basically and online version of those traditional newspaper classifieds.  One of the more effective areas are the buying and selling of tickets.  First, I would advise checking the legality of buying and selling tickets outside of those traditional channels (ie Ticketmaster) in your area.  If it is legal, then you can go to craiglist to sell those tickets.  If the tickets are not sold out, then usually one would lose money selling them in the secondary market.  However once the shows sell out, then there is plenty of an opportunity for profit.  What are the requirements for this business?  You will need the ability to identify shows that will sell out and get tickets directly from the dealer at your first opportunity.  Then once the tickets sell out, you list them on craigslist.  I would suggest having a cell phone and email where your potential clients can contact you.

Some other tips…

  1. Tickets become worthless after the show is over
  2. Don’t just buy the tickets hoping to make money… worst case, if you like the artist, you can go to the show with your family and friends.  If you absolutely hate the artists that will be performing, then you will suffer twice if you lose in this endeavor.
  3. Also, ebay is another way to sell your tickets, keep in mind that it takes time for the listing to be over and to send the tickets to the customer if needed.
  4. Be safe when dealing with people on craigslist
  5. Good luck!

I have been reading a lot of blogs and such lately and many have been talking about selling e-books.  C’mon, e-books?  Who would actually want to buy a pdf version of some book that couldn’t get published?  This was a question I have had for many years.  But after actually expirimenting and reading e-books, many offer high quality content.  However, personally, I feel that it’s quite dificult to make a website and then sell a pdf e-book.  Although I have heard of many successes selling e-books and then offering them through affiliate channels, I still cannot imagine myself buying e-books.  (Please let me know of any success stories with e-books.  Thanks!)  This may be because I am a fan of Barnes and Nobles as well as the public libraries, but personally I still cannot imagine paying for a pdf version of a book.

I know there are many e-books out there, so if you are interested, just google up your favorite topic and you are bound to find an e-book in your subject, unless it is a very rare niche.  And if you have stumbled on that very rare niche, then I suggest you write your own e-book and sell it.  Personally, I am trying to stumble on that said niche and perhaps expiriment with making my own e-book product.  Anyway, wish you all the best of luck.  Perhaps, I will change my mind after this.

This is part one of the two-part series: How to make money using Craigslist and Ebay?  This first part, we will focus on how to get free or bargain inventory and products to sell using craigslist.org.

Hope things are going well, everybody.  Today, I would like to introduce to you all the power of combining Craigslist and Ebay.  First of all, what will you need for this?  I would recommend having a vehicle or access to a car or truck.  Then, you can look around Craigslist’s “free” section and browse around and check out what kind of free stuff there is in your area.  You will be surprised how many people are giving out free stuff, especially in the more expensive areas of town.  Next, follow the instructions provided on the ad posting, try to call ahead if you can.  Many of these pickups are first-come, first-served, and I know free things, especially things of resale value go fast, real fast.

craigslist_free

I would recommend that everytime you go online, check on the craigslist’s free section in your metropolitan area and if you find something that you feel that can be sold on ebay, go and get it!  And after you get it, you just got yourself free inventory, your cost of goods sold (COGS) will be zero (less the costs of getting to the place)!!!  Isn’t this better than buying stuff and taking the risk of carrying inventory???

As you can tell above, there are subsections in the “for sale” sections that could also contain cheap bargains that you can resell on Ebay for maximum profit.  Now you may ask, why these people listing their stuff on craigslist aren’t selling on Ebay?  Well, perhaps they don’t want to deal with the complications of ebay: listing fees, having to ship to a faraway place, etc.  But, guess what?  Here is the opportunity for you to make money!

Next time, we will share with you how to make money using Ebay from your craigslist inventory.  For more information about online businesses, please continue to check out http://www.hackerstail.com.

Thanks and wish you all the best of luck!

This is part two (2) of our ongoing series Tips from HackersTail for Newbies.

Are you looking for quick money?  Content Creation is one of the easiest ways to make money online.  All you need is the ability to write well in English or any language, in addition to a Paypal account.  There are different types of online Content Creation projects that one can undergo.  Today, we will talk briefly on forum posting.

Have you wondered how many online forums get populated?  Many online message boards rely the use of paid forum posters to populate the discussion board.  So how do I find these gigs?  There are many webmaster-related forums that have Buy/Sell/Trade or Marketplace sections where one can hire or offer forum posting services.  Examples include the Funk13 Forums (under construction), DigitalPoint (http://forums.digitalpoint.com) and Webmaster-Talk (http://www.webmaster-talk.com).

The current market price for forum posting varies, but most range from around 8 cents to 12 cents per post and the general requirement is 15-20 words per post with good grammar and punctuation.  Typical offers are $1.00 for 10 posts or $10.00 for 100 posts.  In general, forum owners pay after the job is completed in a satisfactory manner.  However, there is small percentages that do not pay.  Thus, it is important to check the reputation of the person who hires you.  DigitalPoint and Webmaster-Talk both have a system called ITrader, which is similar to Ebay’s rating system, where people who have completed transactions with the person can post their ratings.  Overall, forum posting is a great and easy way to start making money online.

As a car owner it is inevitable that at some stage, rather sooner than later, your car will need to be taken for servicing or repairs to the vehicle. Auto repair scams constantly rank as one of the most reported consumer complaints internationally.

In many instances around the world, television programs had exposes various scams related to auto repair and servicing. In the majority of these programs it was revealed how service providers receive vehicles for servicing. After completion of service the client was presented an invoice for work conducted and parts replaced. Television crew incidentally marked the old parts before the vehicle was taken to the service provider, which now appears as replaced according to the invoice. Upon investigation, it was found on all these programs that various old parts have indeed not been replaced, despite the invoice clearly stating it has been.

How these scams work

Auto repair scams in general are committed when victims are invoiced for parts or services, which in fact were never delivered.

Service providers may, in total, not replace parts during a service to a vehicle, but invoice the client for the replacement thereof. In many instances service providers may replace parts with second-hand parts obtained off other vehicles and charge a client for new parts.

Service providers in many instances may also substitute parts with so called ‘pirated’ parts. These are parts, made much cheaper, off the design of the original part and also commercially sold much cheaper than the original part. Often these parts do not have the same lifespan than original parts and may not perform the same than the original part. In these instances the victim may be charged the price of the original part and not that of the pirated part.

Protecting yourself against these scams

Find a service provider before you need one

Our first piece of advice is to find an auto shop before you need one. You could always ask friends or family to recommend one that is reliable. It would always be advisable to utilize your own vehicle’s manufacturer’s recommendations, but not everyone is always in a position to afford their high rates.

Honouring warranties

Always ensure before hand that the service provider honours existing warranties on your vehicle. If a service provider does not honour existing warranties, you might be charged high rates for parts or labour covered by your existing warranty.

Qualifications and accreditations

You should ensure that the service provider is qualified and accredited to perform the work on your vehicle. Ask questions and look for certificates confirming the qualification and accreditation of service providers.

Repair invoice and guarantees

When the work has been performed on your vehicle, you should ensure that the provider issues a legible copy of a repair invoice indicating the work done on the vehicle. This should include an itemized description of the parts used and labour conducted. Also ensure that you receive confirmation of any guarantees offered by the service provider.

Shop around

Always shop around as you could find a better service provider elsewhere.

Protecting you and your path to prosperity.
